Our Aims and Objectives 

Goal of the Irish Multiple Myeloma Society 

To achieve excellent outcomes for multiple myeloma patients in Ireland through best clinical practice, patient centred research, advocacy and data driven innovation. 

Strategic priorities 

  • To develop a co-ordinate, evidence-based approach to clinical diagnosis and management of multiple myeloma patients in Ireland as an expert group. 

Action: (a) To author a position papers/best practice guidelines based on international evidence for the diagnosis and management of multiple myeloma in Ireland. (b) To promote the visibility, impact and development of IMMS through development of a website and social media channels. 

  • To develop a data driven approach for understanding the unmet needs of multiple myeloma patients in Ireland through collaborative data sharing and development of an Irish Multiple Myeloma Registry and Biobank. 

Action: To establish an independent registry and biobank for multiple myeloma and precursor conditions in Ireland with the aim of enrolling every patient at every stage of disease. 

  • To develop and promote Ireland as an excellent country for clinical trials in multiple myeloma by engaging with international collaborative groups, industry partners and the development of novel clinical trial protocols. 

Action: To establish, promote and develop opportunities for clinical trials for Irish multiple myeloma patients through engagement with collaborative groups (e.g. EMN, UKMRF), international societies (IMS) and industry. (b) To have IMMS recognised internationally as a cohesive, collaborative group for clinical trial engagement in Ireland. 

To advocate for the needs and rights of multiple myeloma patients at local, national, and international levels and increase public awareness.
